Description
Ski-Alpinism / Ski touring / Spring skiing is an activity that allows :
- away from the crowds of ski resorts and lift queues
- discover immaculate landscapes,
- enjoy a powder descent,
- an environmentally-friendly activity.
Ski-Alpinism / Ski Touring / Spring Skiing is all about climbing to summits and passes, making your mark in an immaculate universe and descending into untracked spaces.
Ski-Alpinism / Ski touring / Spring skiing, like mountaineering, is a traditional physical activity characterized by a shared culture, an art made up of knowledge (knowledge of the high-mountain environment, history, practice and values associated with it) and know-how (mastery of alpine skiing techniques, climbing and belaying, use of equipment: touring skis, sealskins, knives, rope, ice axe and crampons). It is characterized by the acquisition of a wide range of knowledge about the natural and undeveloped environment (snow, altitude, glaciers), changing climatic conditions and the appreciation of random natural events (avalanches, storms, etc.). The culture of ski-alpinism (ski touring, spring skiing) also relies on aesthetic references, as ski-alpinists / ski tourers are attached to the beauty of the routes, the elegance of the gesture in the ascent and descent, the contemplation of landscapes and communion with the natural environments crossed. The practice also embraces ethical principles based on individual commitment, economy of means, absence of residual traces left behind, measured risk-taking and a duty of mutual aid and assistance between practitioners. Style and sensitive experience often take precedence over the successful ascent of a summit, pass or traverse.
The Bessans Bonneval-sur-Arc area, which has been awarded the "Terre d'Alpinise" label, is an exceptional terrain for ski mountaineering, ski touring and spring skiing. High mountain guide Jean Louis Bernezat called the Avérole valley one of the most beautiful spots for ski-mountaineering and ski-touring.
