Ethnobotany Internship

Bessans

On the outskirts of La Bessannaise, we’ll take a look at the plants that were part of our ancestors’ daily lives in their agro-pastoral way of life.

Description

From young shoots (knotweed, silene, stinging nettle, goosefoot) to add to soups, to roots (bunium) and stems (salsify) that we nibble on, we’ll move on to berries, picked from the shrubs.
Ethnobotany also encompasses the various herbs that served as remedies before the advent of social security (children’s ailments, childbirth, toothaches…), as well as symbolic uses (alpine lady’s mantle) and practical uses (birch, trisete).
