Glacier evolution in Haute Maurienne: monitoring the Baounet
The retreat of Haute Maurienne's glaciers is reconstructed from 1850 to the present day. Sylvain Jobard's monitoring of the Baounet glacier enables us to anticipate the effects of disappearing glaciers on water resources.
Description
The study of Haute-Maurienne glaciers, in particular the Baounet, enables us to reconstruct climatic variations since 1850 and to anticipate the hydrological impacts of their disappearance.
Over the past 20 years, meteorological and hydrological measurements have documented the surface and mass retreat of the Baounet glacier. These observations have been supplemented by drone topographic surveys over the last ten years.
This talk presents the implementation of these measurement methods in the field, the results obtained and the outlook for the future.
