Regulations for the races in the skate and classic technique
1) Distances:
• 42 km in the skate technique (black signs): open to French or foreign skiers who are at least 20 years old on the day of the race and with a bill of health which shows the aptitude to run races over long distances. In order to take part to this race it is necessary to have an FFS (Fédération Française de Ski) permission, which means:
- having the carte neige compétiteur dirigeant FFS,
- or the carte neige pratiquant FFS,
- or taking a ticket course FFS for the race you want to enroll in (THIS SOLUTION IS COMPULSORY FOR THE FOREIGN COMPETITORS).
Four promotional races:
• 21 km in the skate technique (one 21 km ring, red signs): open to French or foreign skiers who are at least 20 years old on the day of the race and with a bill of health which shows the aptitude to run races over long distances. In order to take part to this race it is necessary to have an FFS permission, which means:
- having the carte neige compétiteur dirigeant FFS,
- or the carte neige pratiquant FFS,
- or taking a ticket course FFS for the race you want to enroll in (THIS SOLUTION IS COMPULSORY FOR THE FOREIGN COMPETITORS).
• 10 km in the skate technique (blue signs): open to skiers born in 1992 or beforehand (with a bill of health which shows the aptitude to run races over long distances).
• 5 km in the skate technique (green signs): open to boys and girls born in 1993 and in 1994.
• 2,5 km in the skate technique ( yellow signs): open to children born in 1995 or afterwards (for this distance there will be two final results).
New in 2007 a 25 Km race in the classic technique (violet signs): open to French and foreign skiers who are at least 20 years old on the day of the race and with a bill of health which shows the aptitude to run races over long distances, besides the permission:
- carte neige compétiteur dirigeant FFS
- carte neige pratiquant FFS
- or with a Ticket course FFS for the race you want to enroll in (THIS SOLUTION IS COMPULSORY FOR THE FOREIGN COMPETITORS).

2) Enrollment :

On line : on website
www.activeeurope.com with secure payment by credit card,
until the 12 th January 2007.

By post : application form filled up and sent, with your payment (cheque to: Marathon de Bessans) by the 12 th January 2007 (postmark). For all the registration forms sent by post and payed by cheque between the 1 st and the 12 th January 2007, a surcharche of 6 € will be demanded.
3) Meal
Look out! For the 2007 edition the meal will not be automatically included in the enrollment; you can book it when you enroll (see tariffs) at the latest on the 12th January. The meal will take place at the end of the race at the Espace Albaron.
NB: Only the runners and the people who are with them are entitled to the meal.
4) Cancellation
In the event of a cancellation of the race the organizers will refund what has been payed with deduction of the organisation expenses:
- 25% if the cancellation is pronounced on the Saturday before the race before 22H.
- 35% if the cancellation is pronounced after 22H on Saturday or on Sunday morning. In that case the meal will anyway take place.
If a skier has got a health problem and can prove it (doctor’s certificate) within the evening before the race he will be repayed on the same conditions. Other matters will not be considered.
5) Start-numbers
The start-numbers must be taken at the Espace Albaron on the evening before the race between 15:00 and 20:00 or on the following morning to start with 07:00.
6) Start
Please pay attention to the new start time due to the creation of a new distance. The start of the race in the classic technique is at 09:30 am at the place named la Porte Nordique.
The start of all races in the skate technique is at 10:30 am at the place named la Porte Nordique.
The Bessans Marathon is open to the disabled.
NB: the runners must be at the start place a quarter of an hour before the start time.
Line élite: from 0 to 30 points FFS plus the first 10 in the two previous Marathons (2005 e 2006). As for the race in the classic technique the first 10 at the 2006 30 Km.
First line: from 30 to 120 points FFS plus the people who ranked from 11 to 50 in the two previuos Marathons (2005 e 2006). As for the race in the classic technique the runners who ranked from 11 to 50 at the 2006 30 Km.
Second line: all the other runners.
The FFS points will be checked.
As far as the foreign runners are concerned, their national points will be considered.
As for the race in the classic technique the organizers have got the faculty to change the starting lines according to the number of participants.
7) Checks :
At the finish all the competitors have to show the stamps of the different checkpoints and skiers who took part to the 42 Km race have to show their two skis whit the stick-on labels put at the start. The skiers of the 42 Km race who did not achieve the first ring by 13:00 will not be ranked. If they want they can continue the race, although on their own responsability.
8) Results :
The results will be updated as the skiers cross the finishing line. Each race will have general results (all categories included) plus the results for each category.
As far as the 42 Km race is concerned the age categories are:
Men and women
- Seniors / V1 from 21 to 34 years old
- V2/V3 from 35 to 44 years old
- V4/V5 from 45 to 54 years old
- V6/V7 from 55 to 64 years old
- V8 et + 65 and more
As far as the 25 Km in the classic technique is concerned the categories are:
men and women with no age distiction.
9) Complaints
Complaints must be addressed -within 15 minutes after the end of the race- to the jury.
10) Results and prizes
The announcement of the results and the prize-giving ceremony will take place at 14:00 at the townhall (mairie) square.
