The 15th August at Bessans is celebrated by a religious procession through the village. Along the route many Bessanais, the faithful and holidaymakers participate in this procession which is rich in colour : several priests, followed by young 20 year-olds with girls carrying the Blessed Virgin, followed by children and then men and women in traditional dress.

Without doubt, it is the number and richness of Bessans's traditional dress that attracts most of the people, dresses with red, black and gold glints, glistening shawls, fine lace headdresses, Bessanaises crosses in solid gold as well as accessories which make the costume of Bessans one of the most beautiful in Savoie.

Proud of their past, more and more young people dress up when ceremonies are held : 15th August, marriages, baptisms...
